PRESS RELEASE, April 8, 2009

Friends of Rick Jeffery Society Formed

The “Friends of Rick Jeffery Society” is pleased to announce its formation in order to
complete the final recorded work of Rick Jeffery, who passed away in 2003, and to
promote his last recording, which will include original compositions and will feature
some of Nova Scotia’s top blues / roots artists. The project will include a CD entitled
“Thirteen Vultures” and a DVD of live performance footage, photographs and interviews.

Rick Jeffery – well known in Nova Scotia blues circles -left behind a body of unfinished
music in the studio at the time of his passing. Jim Henman, close personal friend of Mr.
Jeffery and founding member of April Wine, was asked to complete the recording –
entitled “Thirteen Vultures.”

“We have been given the bed tracks and had Rickey’s instructions on what needed to be
done,” says Henman “and the formation of the Society helps us move forward with all the
necessary finishing touches.”

Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Rick Jeffery was a long time member of the Dutch
Mason Blues Band. He played with BB King, James Cotton and Bo Diddley and had his
music featured on the Trailer Park Boys TV show and movie. He was a mentor to Garrett
Mason and is credited with coining the phrase “Prime Minister of the Blues” in reference
to long time friend and Canadian blues icon Dutch Mason, who passed away in 2006.

“I’m delighted to be helping stitch together a bit of Canadian blues history,” says Shirley
Jackson, who Chairs the Society and is horn arranger on Thirteen Vultures. “Our plans
are to bring together former members of both the Dutch Mason and Rick Jeffery Blues
Bands and then put on some performances of Thirteen Vultures this summer” she says.

Members of the Rick Jeffery Tribute Band, performance schedule, production details, and
CD order information will be announced in the next few weeks.

A limited edition release of Thirteen Vultures is planned for July 2009, with proceeds
going to Mr. Jeffery’s estate. Discussions with a national distributor are underway. All
recording, design and production work for Thirteen Vultures CD/DVD release is being
done in Nova Scotia.
